LDComics REVIVE YOUR GRAPHIC NOVEL
An Immersive Residential Semi-Structured Weekend Workshop

Have you made a start on your project but not done anything for ages?
Are you relentlessly distracted by the demands of daily life?
Join award-winning graphic memoirist Dr Nicola Streeten in the peaceful surroundings of The Grange, a former rectory in Norfolk, for this semi-structured weekend workshop.
Nicola will guide you through a series of fun practical drawing, writing and planning exercises, as part of this enjoyable creative time with a small group of like-minded participants. These structured workshops will be complemented by presentations and private time for you to reflect and develop your ideas in response to prompts. By the end of the weekend, you will feel recharged and ready to take your project to the next stage.
Everyone is welcome to join. No experience is necessary, just bring your ideas! Basic art materials will be provided.
The Grange provides:
- A private room with a desk.
- Wifi in all rooms and throughout the house.
- All linen and towels are provided.
- Toilets, shower, and bath are shared access.
- Use of the communal kitchen, a library with an extensive collection of graphic novels and art books and living room with workstations as well as access to the extensive gardens and grounds.
- Meals: Vegan/vegetarian breakfast, lunch, dinner. All food allergies and needs will be discussed in advance to ensure options for you.
- Breakfast and lunch will be provided for you to help yourself to.
- Hot drinks available for you to help yourself to throughout your stay.
- The evening meal will be communal, and we ask for all participants to commit to joining.
Outline Weekend Schedule
Friday
4pm: Arrival at The Grange to settle in and look around followed by introductory illustrated presentations from everyone in the group with drinks. Then enjoy a communal evening meal.
Saturday
10-12: Workshop
12-4: Lunch and free time to prepare for the afternoon workshop.
4-6pm: Workshop
7pm: Presentation and discussion followed by a communal evening meal
Sunday
10-12: Workshop and planning next steps.
12-2pm: Lunch
2pm: Departure from The Grange
Cost: £240 to include facilitation, meals, accommodation. Attendance is limited to 6 participants in single occupancy rooms with shared bathroom facilities. Transport costs to The Grange are not covered.

•There is no application process to take part in the REVIVE weekends
• The REVIVE weekends are offered at a fixed price and are not part of the pay-what-you can basis residencies.
About Dr Nicola Streeten
UK-based multi-award-winning graphic novelist and comics scholar. Her graphic memoir Billy, Me & You (Myriad Editions, 2011) was followed by The Inking Woman (Myriad Editions, 2018) a 250-year illustrated history of British women’s cartoonists. This was complemented by theoretical publication UK Feminist Cartoons and Comics: A Critical Survey(Palgrave Macmillan, 2020). She is currently working on Yield, her second graphic novel based on the origin story of radical American alternative community Black Mountain College (1933-1957) told through her familial eyes as great niece of founding member, John Evarts.
Nicola is founding director of LDComics – a women creator-led forum welcoming all, championing graphic novel works, particularly by women. In 2022-2023 She received a British Council International Collaboration award to deliver REVEAL! Women’s Comics East Africa-UK with a Kenyan partner, storying gender and climate change.

About The Grange
Located in the small rural village Great Cressingham, Norfolk, The Grange was originally built as a rectory in the 1700s. This wonderful Georgian house is set in 10 acres of tranquil gardens and grounds. It is a beautiful and magical place offering simple, comfortable accommodation and peace for everyone to benefit from.
The Grange Projects hosts integrated artistic activity at The Grange in Norfolk. Organised by artist family Dr Nicola Streeten, John Plowman with help and advice from daughter Sally Plowman, The Grange is currently home to Nicola and John.
