The day invited in-depth critical interrogation of issues surrounding gender parity in contemporary comics. Our discussions had an international perspective, with contributions from academics, practitioners and activists. The morning seminar asked the questions and the afternoon seminar gatherd responses. The event was rounded off with a Laydeez do Comics special, hosting a series of presentations from women comics artists and accompanied by home made cake.

Eilidh Nicolson is a local indie artist who who likes exploring gender through her work, which includes the comic Girls from Mars. Find her on twitter (@HeyItsAyls) and http://heyitsayls.tumblr.com.
Adam Smith has been involved in small press comics for 15 years, most notably the ‘Khaki Shorts’ anthology which ran for 28 issues from 1999 – 2011. However he got his biggest ‘break’ in 2013 when he managed to secure an interview with his favourite cartoonist, Wally Fawkes aka Trog – and the results were published in The Comics Journal. Letty Wilson is an artist and writer from Scotland, who has just finished an MLitt in Comics Studies at Dundee University.
