LDC COURSES & WORKSHOPS

We are evolving into the go to place for professional and creative learning.

Sign up for our newsletter to stay up to date on group workshop opportunities!

A monthly online meet up group led by Wallis Eates, for autobiographical comic makers on the third Sunday of every month, 1-5 pm with breaks.

Safe Space for Hard Stories creates a buffer between the creative space of immersion and exploration, and the public realm. It is a participatory space that is held by those that attend with mutual trust and confidentiality. Stories are shared and heard. Together we navigate the various anxieties that arise with this kind of work, offering each other support. In addition to this, the regularity of the meet ups is a great opportunity to sustain a rhythm with your work. However, there is no pressure to produce – life can and does get in the way, and that’s ok!

Sessions consist of:

  • Sharing updates on your projects
  • Peer to peer and/or group mentoring
  • A chaired discussion around a particular topic of anxiety
  • Art activities to support your projects
  • An invitation to set goals
  • Q&A with invited guests who have published autobiographical comic material about a difficult time in their lives.

The course is ongoing and the fee covers blocks of 6 sessions that can be then be renewed.

Zoom Online Workshop

Applying for Arts Council England Funding
Led by Dr Nicola Streeten
£12 per person

Do you have a brilliant idea that you think should be funded by Arts Council England, but feel overwhelmed by the application form and process?

This practical online workshop is for you! Bring your laptop or ipad, and/or paper and something to write with. Dr Nicola Streeten will guide you through a series of simple and entertaining exercises to refine your approach and plan. This will be the basis for any successful funding application. Nicola will use the Arts Council England form and take you through it, distinguishing between the Developing Your Creative Practice and the project Grant. She will show you how to construct budgets and timelines with examples that you can then use as templates for your own project. The workshop will allow time for your questions and by the end you will have developed a confidence in your path to realising your idea.

Drawing from your Life:  Find your personal stories

Led by Emma Burleigh

£12 per person

We all have a comic inside us! Sometimes we just need a little help to draw it out. In this workshop we will dip into the well of our own personal memory to find the stories waiting within. Be they silly or serious, funny or profound, or all of the above, let’s welcome in the ones that are ready to be told! Come with an open mind, and be willing to let a long-forgotten story or two bubble up to the surface.

We’ll begin by loosening up, playing with ways of combining word and image to create fresh and surprising meanings, before delving into our minds and memories to find the seeds for rich and personal story ideas. We’ll finish by watering the seeds with sharing, exercises, and tips for further development. Will this become the kernel of your comic for LDC’s online summer fair?
