Emma Burleigh

Emma Burleigh is developing a graphic memoir about her reunion with her birth mother who relinquished her for adoption as a baby. In March 2018 the work won The Laydeez do Comics Women’s Prize for Unpublished Graphic Novels in Progress. Since then she has joined the Laydeez team.

A Bristol based artist and illustrator, she is currently working on a range of personal and commissioned projects including a collaboration with the poet River Wolton and a Mindful Art-Making Course Book. In 2015 she completed an MA in ‘Authorial Illustration’ at Falmouth University, with Distinction. She teaches workshops in mindful and intuitive art-making and is a tutor at The Royal West Academy in Bristol. Her graphic short story “My Life as a Foetus” was published in The Strumpet in October 2017. Her artwork has appeared in publications including Resurgence and Ecologist magazine and Aeva, and she has self-published several zines.
